It’s no secret that college football has changed in recent years with the introduction of the transfer portal and the recent decision to allow players to profit from their name, image, and likeness. But legendary head coach Mack Brown thinks that an even bigger change could be coming to college football in the near future.
During an appearance on the “Paul Finebaum Show” last month, Mack Brown offered a bold prediction about the future of college football, suggesting that it won’t be long until college players become employees of the university instead of merely scholarship student-athletes.
“So I think we’re going to see major changes over the next two years. I think we’ll see student athletes becoming employees of universities. I think we’ll more of a salary cap. Athletes will start getting the same amount of money. Whether the collective goes back inside the university, because then it gets under some Title IX jurisdiction or stays out, who knows,” Brown said according to On3.
There currently is no plan to make college athletes employees, but based on the recent changes to the college football landscape, it’s certainly not a stretch for Brown to predict it will happen in the near future.
