It was reported on Wednesday that LSU Tigers star receiver Kayshon Boutte would not be playing in the team’s upcoming Citrus Bowl game against Purdue. We now know why after a shocking change of heart from the standout receiver regarding the upcoming 2023 NFL Draft.
Boutte previously revealed that he would be returning to LSU next year for his senior season, but he revealed on social media on Wednesday that he has changed his mind, and will be entering the NFL Draft.
“After careful thoughts and consideration, I will be declaring for the 2023 NFL DRAFT,” tweeted Boutte.
It’s unclear exactly why Boutte decided to make this decision, but it certainly comes at a very strange time just one week before the team’s bowl game.
Another reason it is weird timing is that LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels also revealed last week that he would be returning to school next season, hinting that there may be some animosity between the two players.
Regardless of the reasoning, Boutte will now look forward to the NFL Draft in April, and he profiles to be one of the most prolific prospects at his position.
Boutte projects to be a potential first-round pick in the upcoming draft due to his elite size and athleticism despite some modest numbers this season.
The junior receiver put up just 538 receiving yards this year on 48 receptions along with two touchdowns, but NFL scouts certainly believe that he will make a much bigger impact once he reaches the NFL level.
