We already know the obvious favorites in the SEC; both Georgia and Alabama were picked to win their divisions this season. But who are the teams who could sneak up on them?
According to ESPN’s college football analyst, it could be the Kentucky Wildcats. Herbstreit based his prediction on the addition of new offensive coordinator Liam Coen and also the addition of former NC State QB Devin Leary out of the transfer portal.
“They’ve got Devin Leary coming over from North Carolina State,” Herbstreit said. “You lose Will Levis, but you have a talented, experienced quarterback. New offensive coordinator Liam Coen.
“Mark Stoops has a team every year that’s going to be physical; they’re going to bring a chip on their shoulder. Will Levis, as much hype – they didn’t have a great year offensively (last season). I think this year they can be better with Coen there, with Leary coming in. Look out for old UK.” he added.
That’s a bold statement from Herbstreit because, just like Alabama, they will be replacing their starting quarterback with someone, in this case, who has never played a down in the SEC before.
The one thing the Wildcats have been constant at is on defense, and they may be able to carry this team until they find their footing on offense.
