This season, Kansas Jayhawks star quarterback Jalon Daniels emerged as one of the most electric playmakers in all of college football before a shoulder injury derailed his stellar 2022 campaign and put a damper on what was a magical season for the Jayhawks. But it looks like Daniels is ready to run it back this year.
While many were speculating that Jalon Daniels would leave Kansas and enter the upcoming NFL Draft, the Jayhawks quarterback put that speculation to rest on Friday, releasing a video indicating that he plans to return to Kansas next season.
“Ever since I first touched the field at 8 years old, it was always a dream of mine to be able to play college football at the Division I level. Under the lights, with my brothers, listening to the roar of the crowd, and being able to accomplish what many people thought I couldn’t,” Daniels said in a video. “These past three years–you’ve brought me in as one of your own. Helped up pack The Booth. Stayed down with us when nobody else believed. And have not only helped me grow as an athlete, but as a man. This season was full of many trials and tribulations. But along with those trials and tribulations were many blessings that not only I was able to achieve as a player, but we were able to achieve as a program.”
Daniels ended the video with a simple message: “So stop asking. 2023, it’s up. Rock Chalk Nation! Let’s do it!”
This season, Daniels completed 66.1 percent of his passes for 2,014 yards with 18 touchdowns and four interceptions. He also had 419 yards and seven touchdowns on 77 rushing attempts. He’ll look to add to both of those numbers next season.
