The SEC has been widely considered the best and most dominant conference across college football for quite a long time with five of the past seven national champions coming from the SEC, with the Georgia Bulldogs, Alabama Crimson Tide and LSU Tigers winning the past three College Football Playoff titles. But according to one Michigan Wolverines player, there’s one thing that makes life a lot easier on SEC teams: the weather.
During Michigan’s narrow win over the Illinois Fighting Illini on Saturday afternoon, Wolverine kicker Jake Moody was called upon several times in some pretty windy and wintery conditions. Moody kicked three second-half field goals to secure the victory, including what proved to be the game-winning field goal late in the fourth quarter.
After the game, Moody was asked about kicking in such difficult conditions, and he had a pretty blunt response while taking a shot at the SEC conference in the process.
“It’s not the SEC,” Moody said after the game, according to Michigan football reporter Alejandro Zúñiga of 247 Sports. “You’ve got to deal with some tough wind conditions. It’s freezing out there.”
This will certainly raise some eyebrows down south, especially if Michigan makes the College Football Playoff and faces an SEC opponent.
