Controversy emerged earlier this month regarding offensive tackle Kadyn Proctor. The former Alabama standout shockingly transferred to Iowa after Nick Saban retired from coaching. But recently, Proctor decided to renege that decision and return to the Crimson Tide.
Much was made about the potential NIL fallout here. When Proctor entered the transfer portal and then jumped to Iowa, many concluded that NIL was a factor. Probably for a good reason, as NIL has been a landscape-changing maneuver that’s helped college athletes out majorly.
Iowa’s NIL collective emerged on Thursday to make a statement on the situation and set the record straight.
The collective, SWARM, had its CEO Brad Heinrichs make the statement before publishing on X, the website formerly known as Twitter. “Swarm operates with both the nonprofit collective side, which relies on generous fan contributions, and the Inc. side, where businesses contract with student-athletes.
“Kadyn Proctor has not received funds from the Collective,” Heinrichs said. “He received a portion of his Swarm Inc. contracted payment from a sponsoring business. We are unable to share the details of these contracts due to confidentiality clauses in the contracts. Supporting Iowa athletics and Iowa nonprofits remains our priority. Thank you for your support. Go Hawks!”

So, that emphatically closes the book on that situation then. So it goes. For Proctor and Iowa’s sake, hopefully everything ends up goes well in the end.
