A video of Georgia Bulldogs freshman defensive star Jamaal Jarrett shows him making racially insensitive remarks while live-streaming the NFL Draft on Instagram Live.
With the Atlanta Falcons on the board for the No. 8 pick Thursday night, a young Asian-American boy, Shane Gifford, took the podium to announce the pick. As Gifford, from the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kansas City, prepared to read the pick, Jarrett referred to former Bulldogs star Jalen Carter, saying “Jalen Carter, Jalen Carter, Jalen Carter …”
Jarrett grew impatient and dropped the slur.
“C’mon you Asian!” Jarrett said. “Ching chong!”

It’s definitely a bad look for Jarrett, and a program that has won consecutive national championships but come under fire for off-the-field issues. Earlier this year, Carter was charged with racing and reckless driving after an accident that killed a fellow Georgia player and Bulldogs staffer.
Jarrett is a four-star recruit from Greensboro, North Carolina. 247Sports ranked the 6-foor-6, 330-pound player the No. 18 defensive lineman in the class of 2023.
Georgia has not responded to the video, which first appeared Saturday.
Football fans immediately responded to the slur.
A Georgia Bulldogs football player made anti Asian comments on his Instagram Live when he saw an Asian man announcing a pick in the NFL Draft. His name is Jamaal Jarrett. This is unacceptable and disgusting.https://t.co/BLMZ1zOisG

Yeah, wish I could say this is the worst part of UGA’s culture but they just had players drinking and racing

…did he really just say, “Ching Chong?” I really hope I misheard that.

He’s young, emotional and said a mildly insulting trope. My hair isn’t in fire about it when there is routine physical violence against Asians, mostly by other POC’s. Asians use mildly insulting tropes against other races, but not violence.

Practically no coverage of UGA football player Jamaal Jarrett spouting an anti-Asian racial epithet. The school and football program needs to hold him accountable for his actions. The fact that he did this after the racist Atlanta spa shootings just two years ago is unacceptable. https://t.co/ik3kFAgrwd
