Wrestling legend Bill Goldberg had some news to announce this week. Well, actually, his son has some major news to announce. Gage Goldberg announced via social media that the Alabama Crimson Tide and head coach Nick Saban has offered him a scholarship to play football.
He celebrated with this post online with his father. “After an amazing camp and visit, I am truly honored to receive a PWO from @AlabamaFTBL!!!” he said. The post included a photo of Gage with his famed father, as Gage was seen in a #11 Alabama home jersey.
Gage seemed more excited about the offer than his father, maybe because Goldberg use to play for the Tide’s SEC rival, the Georgia Bulldogs, back in the day.
His son is following in his footsteps, playing on the defensive side of the ball for his high school. He must be good because Alabama doesn’t just offer scholarships to just anybody. He’s also received offers from other schools as well, but nothing yet from Georgia, but that will probably change soon.
It’s not unheard of sons of famous athletes not to attend the college where their fathers attended. One example of that is the Mannings.
While Archie, Cooper, and Eli all attended Ole Miss, Peyton Manning decided to attend Tennessee, which of course, didn’t sit well with Rebel fans back then who thought it was a slam dunk that he would follow his father to Oxford.
So, don’t be surprised if you see Bill Goldberg sitting in the stands in the few years wearing Crimson and White.
