The Florida Gators will now be down at least one quarterback going into the off-season. Gators QB Max Brown told On3’s Hayes Fawcett on Wednesday that he plans to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal.
Brown did not make the announcement on X himself, rather he re-posted Fawcett’s tweet.
“I want to thank God for allowing me to continue to play the game I love,” Brown’s statement read. “I would like to thank the University of Florida, coach (Billy) Napier and coach (Ryan) O’Hara for the opportunity to be a Gator. I also would like to thank my teammates and Gator Nation. With that being said, I will be entering my name into the transfer portal.
“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff comfort me.”
Brown played in Florida’s final two games – against Florida State and Mizzou — as he filled in for an injured Graham Mertz (non-displaced collarbone fracture). In four games, Brown threw for 192 yards, zero touchdowns and a lone interception. He completed 67.9 percent of his passes, going 19 for 28.
With three years of eligibility left, the now-former Florida quarterback hopes to find new ground on which to prove himself. His numbers leave a bit to be desired, but that might spur him to prove that he has more to offer. Teams will always need quarterbacks, so suitors shouldn’t be hard for him to find.
