ESPN’s College GameDay coming to your city always makes the news. And why wouldn’t it? The show is an economic boon for the city, highlighting its fans and eateries alike.
The GameDay crew has toured the country coast to coast while looking for America’s top weekly game. But there is one state they haven’t visited: Montana. And a State Senator is looking to change that.
The Montana Grizzlies and the Montana State Bobcats, you might not know, are Big Business in the Treasure State. They face each other in an annual end-of-the-season rivalry game called “Brawl of the Wild” that basically shutters the entire state for the day.
Montana State Senator Ellie Boldman wants to bring ESPN GameDay to a future Brawl of the Wild with a unified statement from both chambers of the state legislature.
As she told 4o6mtsports.com:
Joint resolutions are a way to establish the unified wishes and/or formalize the requests of the entire House and Senate, “the people’s branch,” as one voice. The Montana legislature often sends this type of unified voice of support when we feel, as lawmakers, and as a body, we are compelled to formalize our beliefs, on behalf of the people of the State of Montana. Our resolutions often show support or encouragement to movements in the private sector.
Bringing ESPN College GameDay to the State of Montana is worthy of such an enthusiastic endorsement.
On one day, every year, our Griz/Cat tradition, the “Brawl of the Wild”, unifies the entire state. The rivalry dates back to the first game in 1897, making it the 31st oldest D-I rivalry in the nation, the 11th oldest west of the Mississippi River and the fourth oldest in FCS history.
Boldman will introduce the legislation during a joint session of legislative Chambers in January.
