Transfer season remains in full force in college football.

Tuesday it was Temple Owls quarterback EJ Warner’s turn to announce his intention to move on from the program and enter the transfer portal.

Warner, the son of Pro Football Hall of Famer Kurt Warner, spent the past two seasons at Temple. He confirmed the news Tuesday night on his X account.

Temple was one of the only schools to offer Warner, who took the starting quarterback job from D’Wan Mathis early in his freshman season and never relinquished it, finishing his first year at Temple having gone 268-for-443 for 3,028 yards and 18 touchdowns to 12 interceptions. Warner became the first Temple player to win AAC Rookie of the Year and joined Bernard Pierce and Tyler Matakevich as the only players in school history to win a Freshman/Rookie of the Year award in any conference.

Warner’s strong play continued in 2023 when he went 256-for-445 for 3,076 yards and 23 touchdowns to 12 interceptions. 23 touchdown passes marks a new single-season record for Temple. Warner also set school records for 200-yard games in a season, 250-yard games in a season, 300-yard games in a season, pass attempts in a season, and 3000-yard seasons in a school career, as Owl Scoop’s Kyle Gauss outlined shortly after Temple’s season finale.

Warner was born and raised in Phoenix, but it’s unclear if he’s looking to return to the West Coast.
