North Carolina Tar Heels quarterback Drake Maye is a Heisman Trophy contender in 2023. The superstar QB will also be making more money than he was. On Tuesday, news emerged that the sophomore Tar Heel inked an NIL deal with popular seafood chain, Jimmy’s Seafood.
The deal won’t just include Maye, either. Six of his wide receiver teammates will also be involved in the deal. On3 noted that the receivers were Andre Greene Jr., Gavin Blackwell, JJ Jones, Kobe Paysour, Nate McCollum, and Tez Walker. On3 NIL tweeted, “Drake Mae and six of his North Carolina wide receivers have signed NIL deals with Jimmy’s Seafood and Famous Meals.”
The report indicates that Maye and the receivers will all receive weekly meals through the month of December. On3 reported that the Heels4Life collective was the one who made the deal possible.
In exchange, according to On3, “as part of the agreements, each athlete will promote the meal prep service on their social media channels.”
A statement from Heels4Life included a statement from Drake Maye. Maye was quoted as saying, “I’m excited for Jimmy’s Seafood to partner with Heels4Life and work with me and my teammates. They are stepping up big to support us. Looking forward to the meals coming!”
Such is life in this new era of college sports, you never know where the next endorsement will come.
