When Deion Sanders took the Colorado job and said he was bringing his Louis Vuitton luggage, he referred to Travis Hunter, among others. After flipping him from Florida State, the No. 1 recruit in the 2022 recruiting class followed Sanders from Jackson State to Boulder.

It’s no secret that Sanders has an affinity for Hunter, one of the sport’s more dynamic athletes. Following spring practice on Monday, Deion made a bold claim about Hunter, which says a lot about him as a player and how he compares to his head coach, who is considered one of the greatest ever to do it.

“Travis is better than I was at the age and stage (he is now),” Sanders via BuffZone. “He may be not as fast, but intangibilities and who he is, he’s better. He’s a better version at this age and stage. He really is – by far.”

Indeed a coach will talk highly about one of his players — and his best one at that — but when Sanders speaks that glowingly about Hunter, it holds a lot of weight.

“That’s surprising coming from a Hall of Famer,” Hunter said via 247Sports. “But he said I’m better than him at his age. So, I’m going to keep striving to be my better self and just continue to try and get that gold jacket. I like to compete. I don’t like anybody catching a ball on me or getting open. If I mess up, I’m getting mad at myself because I don’t want anybody thinking they got a one-up on me.”

It’s only a matter of time before the two-way player takes the Pac-12 by storm.
