When the Colorado Buffaloes hired Hall of Fame defensive back Deion Sanders to be the program’s next head coach, they undoubtedly expected him to give a boost to the team’s recruiting efforts. And from the sound of it, that’s a massive priority for Sanders, too.
Following the team’s spring game, which saw over 45,000 attendees despite poor weather, Deion Sanders addressed his recruiting approach and the message he sends the prospective players interested in joining his program: “No gimmick and no game.”
“They comin’,” Sanders said after the game. “They ain’t hard to find. And they’ve already came. Did you see the kids here today? This has to be one of the biggest recruiting days in the history of Colorado football, and I’m ecstatic about it. I mean, I’ve been in the office and I can’t wait to get off the field so I can get back up and get back to the recruiting.
“We’re not promising anything or giving them anything but opportunity and telling the truth. We have no gimmick and no game. We just bring straight truth and facts.”
So far, that approach seems to have worked for Sanders as he’s already brought in several elite prospects before he’s even coached an official game for the team. We’ll have to see how it continues.
