It’s been a rough year for the Colorado Buffaloes and head coach Deion Sanders, and their postseason hopes officially came to an end on Saturday afternoon.
The Buffaloes entered their matchup against the West Virginia Mountaineers sitting at 3-6, needing a win to keep their bowl dreams alive. But unfortunately for Sanders and his team, that victory didn’t come.
Colorado suffered a 29-22 loss on Saturday, guaranteeing a losing record and eliminating any chance at a postseason appearance. The defeat follows back-to-back blowouts — a 52-17 loss to Arizona last week and a 53-7 loss to Utah the week before.
This is now the second time in three seasons that Sanders and the Buffaloes have fallen short of a postseason berth. In Sanders’ first season, Colorado went 4-8 before bouncing back with a 9-4 campaign last year.
Overall, Sanders holds a losing record at Colorado with 16 wins and 19 losses. The Buffaloes have two games left on the schedule — a home matchup with Arizona State and a season finale on the road against Kansas State.
Needless to say, this is pretty horrible news for Sanders and the Buffaloes, and it led to a lot of reactions on social media.
“Deion’s fall from grace should be a lesson for all people, regardless of stature or profession. Let your deeds do your talking instead of your mouth. When you talk a big game, your haters won’t hesitate to dance on your grave. I hope he’s humbled from this experience,” one person wrote in a post on X.
“Bro is really getting by on his name at this point,” someone else wrote.
“I hope he realizes the adjustments he needs for next season. He is having some trying times on and off the field this season. To be standing on the sidelines with ongoing medical issues says a lot. Most coaches would have stepped aside and turned it over to their assistants,” another person added.
“Deion talks like a national champion and coaches like a mid-tier coordinator. Two losing seasons in three years is NUTS,” someone else said.
“To be fair they were eliminated before the season began,” someone else joked.
We’ll have to see how Sanders and the Buffaloes bounce back from yet another disappointing season.
