Deion Hankins, a former All-Conference running back, will enter the NCAA transfer portal.
Hankins, who previously played for UTEP, will don a different uniform in the 2024 season if he gets his wishes.
The news of Hankins’ reported transfer from UTEP came from 247Sports’ Matt Zenitz.
“UTEP all-conference running back Deion Hankins has entered the transfer portal,” Zenitz reported along with Chris Hummer.
Hankins spent five seasons at UTEP and performed brilliantly. In 2023, he rushed for 812 yards on 157 carries with five rushing touchdowns. In his career, he’s rushed for 2,604 yards on 548 carries, good for a mark of 4.8 YPC. You’ll not often find someone with such a ballooned rushing yards total, and it’s not like he scraped for it, either. He was an impressive bac and earned All-Conference honors in Conference USA in 2021.
Suitors likely won’t be too hard to find for Hankins. While he has a lot of tread on his tires, he’s an accomplished player who may get a chance to level up from Group of 5 play. He has the chance to be a serious impact player for somebody if he finds the right situation. Perhaps a Playoff or conference contender flags him down to try and get over the hump.
The transfer portal has been seriously active on Thursday and it figures to heat up even more as time goes on.
