As the Texas Longhorns get ready to leave the Big 12 for the SEC after this season, the other teams in the conference aren’t holding back how they feel about the Longhorns.
Last week, Big 12 Commissioner Brett Yormark was at a Texas Tech luncheon and said that he hoped the team beats Texas again on Thanksgiving, leading Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian to adopt an “embrace the hate” mentality.
This week, it’s Houston head coach Dana Holgorsen taking shots at both Texas and Texas A&M, claiming both schools were the reason the Cougars were shut out of the Big 12 for 30 years.
“Screw them. They can go wherever they want. They don’t want us and we don’t want them.” Holgorsen said Tuesday night on his weekly radio show.
It makes sense for the remaining members to not necessarily have fond feelings towards Texas and Oklahoma, who are departing. However, Holgorsen bringing up Texas A&M is a bit odd as they’ve been out of the Big 12 for more than a decade at this point.
Holgorsen has plenty of experience as it relates to the Big 12, however. Prior to taking the job at Houston, Holgorsen coached the West Virginia Mountaineers from 2011-18, and the team joined the Big 12 from the Big East in 2012.
