Only a few years ago, the Clemson Tigers and head coach Dabo Swinney looked like the next dynasty in college football to follow Nick Saban and the Alabama Clemson Tide. Clemson routed the Ohio State Buckeyes in the college football playoff and even beat the aforementioned Crimson Tide in the national championship.

Shockingly, Clemson and Swinney are a long way from standing at the top of the sport these days. The Tigers are off to a 1-2 start this season after losses to the LSU Tigers and Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, and fans are upset about how things are going, with many calling for Swinney’s job.

However, Swinney isn’t too concerned about potentially getting fired, in fact, he’s making it known that he’d be happy to leave Clemson if that’s what things ended up coming to.

“I mean, if Clemson is tired of winning. They can send me on my way, but I’m gonna go somewhere else and coach. I ain’t going to the beach,” Swinney said.

Fans reacted to Swinney’s statement on social media.

“Coach takes all the credit for winning, but when clemson football struggles and losses, he unapologetically blames the kids for not doing their job. Doesn’t he have a PR team?” one fan wrote on Twitter.

“I’m an UGA fan, but I’m actually warming up to coach Swinney lately. I like his attitude & I like that he resisted the disgraceful transfer portal as long as he did. Plus he stuck up for the walk-ons, who play for the love of the game & school. I like what he said here to,” someone else added.

“This guy is getting harder and harder to watch. He deserves every $ that Clemson pays him but please stop quoting stats and records from the last decade,” another fan added.

It’ll be interesting to see if Swinney can salvage the season for Clemson and make a push for the college football playoff.
