When Deion Sanders accepted the head coaching job at Colorado, transfers en masse were expected. And on Tuesday, another one that was anticipated and expected occurred, as quarterback JT Shrout will transfer from the Buffaloes.
Pete Thamel of ESPN tweeted on Tuesday, “Sources: Colorado quarterback JT Shrout intends to enter the NCAA transfer portal.”
Shrout’s departure from CU doesn’t come as much of a surprise. Deion’s son, Shadeur Sanders, transferred to Colorado last month. When that happened, that pretty much gave way to the belief that he would be the starter for the Buffs in 2023.
Shrout isn’t the first quarterback to transfer from Colorado this offseason. Quarterback Maddox Kopp announced he would transfer in early December, shortly after Deion arrived at the program.
Shrout will, in all likelihood, join his third team in his collegiate career. Prior to joining the Buffaloes, Shrout originally played for Tennessee. Shrout played in eight games as a Volunteer, where he completed 37 of 69 passes for 494 yards, five touchdowns, and three interceptions.
At Colorado, Shrout didn’t play in 2021. In 2022, he completed just 44.3 percent of his passes for 1,220 yards in nine games. He threw seven touchdowns and eight interceptions.
According to 247Sports, JT Shrout is the eighth player to transfer from Colorado since December 5. The Buffs have been extremely active on both ends of the transfer portal, as is customary nowadays, coaching change or not.
