ESPN’s College GameDay makes surprise pick for next destination

ESPN’s College GameDay made a huge announcement on Sunday about where they’ll be going next. The broadcast crew will be heading to Jackson, Mississippi to see HBCU powerhouse Jackson State and head coach Deion Sanders face Southern Jaguars.

This is not the first time College GameDay has attended an HBCU game. A few years ago they attended the Bayou Classic, which is the annual matchup between Southern and Grambling in the Super Dome in New Orleans.

The Tigers, who are 7-0, ended an eight-game losing streak to the Jaguars last year. The Jaguars come into this contest with a 5-2 record, having won four straight.

Having College GameDay come to your campus is a huge honor for most schools because that means in most cases they consider you the biggest game of the day. It also brings a lot of publicity to unknown teams around the country too, so it’s a big deal for Jackson State to have the chance to host the pregame show.

While Deion Sanders brings his share of publicity to the SWAC, he has also brung his share of controversy as well. Sanders had a much-publicized disagreement with Alabama State head coach Eddie Robinson Jr. a few weeks ago and he chastised a Jackson State beat reporter as well. Overall, however, it’s hard to argue that his impact has been mostly positive for the SWAC and his school so far.
