Both the USC Trojans and the TCU Horned Frogs lost during Conference Championship weekend, with the Trojans falling in a blowout and TCU falling in overtime, and it added plenty of drama to Sunday afternoon’s College Football Playoff selection as the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Alabama Crimson Tide hoped to make the field.
On Sunday afternoon, the committee officially announced the field: the top-seeded Georgia Bulldogs, the No. 2 seed Michigan Wolverines, the TCU Horned Frogs at No. 3, and the Ohio State Buckeyes at No. 4.
The decision propels the Buckeyes into the College Football Playoff despite a blowout loss to Michigan in their last game, giving the Buckeyes another shot to pursue a national title – and a potential rematch with Michigan in the semifinal. Alabama, meanwhile, will not get a chance to avenge its two regular season losses and misses the playoff for just the second time since its inception.
It was certainly one of the most controversial College Football Playoff decisions in the history of the playoff, and the college football world had plenty to say about it on social media after the field was announced.
Good for TCU. That’s the right choice.

The College Football Playoff will begin on Dec. 31 – New Year’s Eve – with the Peach Bowl between Georgia and Ohio State kicking off in the late afternoon and the Fiesta Bowl filling the day’s night slot.
