Clemson Tigers star Will Shipley has been a highly productive player for the entirety of his three-year career with the program. On Wednesday, he announced his intention to test his hand at the next level.
Clemson obviously didn’t have the season that fans and Shipley would have hoped, finishing the season with a 9-4 record on the year.
Despite this, Shipley had a big impact on the year, rushing for 827 yards and five touchdowns while hauling in 31 receptions for 244 yards and two receiving touchdowns.
Shipley is expected to be among the top running back prospects in the 2024 NFL Draft. So it should come as no surprise that he officially declared for the 2024 NFL Draft in a social media post on Wednesday.
For Clemson, it is a big loss even though it was somewhat expected. However, they will have a very solid running back, Phil Mafah in their backfield for the time being.
Mafah actually started to eat into Shipley’s role in the offense, so he could become the true workhorse out of the backfield at Clemson for the 2024 season.
NFL teams will be hoping that they can get Shipley to return to his 2022 form, where he was amongst the best players in the entire country, recording 1,424 all-purpose scrimmage yards and 14 total touchdowns.
It’s obviously unclear whether his talents will translate at the NFL level. But given his production at Clemson, he has a very good chance of becoming an impact player in the NFL.
