It’s clear to most people who have been paying attention to college football over the past several years that the Clemson Tigers are one of the most prominent teams and the biggest revenue-generating programs in the ACC conference. Given that, it sounds like Clemson thinks it deserves a bigger cut of the ACC’s revenue.
In fact, in an interview with The Post and Courier, Clemson Tigers athletic director Graham Neff was asked if receiving a greater share of the ACC’s revenue was a “want” or a “need” for Clemson. And he was pretty blunt in his response.
“In all candor, I put it as a need,” Neff said in an interview with The Post and Courier. “We certainly recognize the investment that we’ve continued to make as an institution, in our community, in athletics, namely in football, which certainly drives a lot of value that is important from a television and revenue-generation standpoint.
“Is it time revenue distribution within conferences, or at least the ACC, is done differently? Yeah, I’ve been very active in those conversations within the league and continue to expect to take a leadership role in our desire for that to be a changed circumstance. Urgently.”
It sounds like the only way Clemson has a future in the ACC conference is if they receive a greater share of the pie. That could set up some interesting conversations in the future.
