Clemson kicker has horrible day, CFB world reacts

The first half of the 2022 Orange Bowl against the Tennessee Volunteers went poorly for Clemson Tigers kicker B.T. Potter. In fact, it was probably the worst of his career.

It was altogether a horrific half for the special teams unit as a whole after Clemson ended their first drive of the Orange Bowl game with a failed fake field goal attempt.

Potter was then called into action on Clemson’s second drive of the game, missing on a 55-yard attempt that came nowhere close, missing wide right.

He then missed another out to the right to begin the second quarter, and ultimately missed his third straight by overcorrecting out to the left on the miss later on in the quarter.

Potter redeemed himself slightly with by making a 31-yard field goal on his fourth attempt later on in the quarter, but the story of the the game thus far was undoubtedly his terrible performance in the first half.

Many around the college football world took to social media to blast the typically reliable kicker for his brutal misses.

“B.T. Potter has entered the transfer portal,” tweeted RedditCFB on Twitter.

“Not liking B.T. Potter’s chances for Orange Bowl MVP,” tweeted David Paschall of the Chattenooga Times Free Press.

Ironically Potter actually broke a Clemson record in the first half with the one field goal that he did make. This make was the 54th consecutive game that he has scored in, breaking former NFL kicker Chandler Catanzaro’s record while at Clemson from 2010-2013.

Up until this game, Potter had only missed three kicks on the year, and his brutal performance in the Orange Bowl thus far tied that mark in just one half of football.
