Over the past few years, the Ohio State Buckeyes have produced several elite talents at the wide receiver position with Garrett Wilson and Chris Olave drafted in the first round back in 2022, Jaxon Smith-Njigba going in the first round in 2023, and Marvin Harrison Jr. and Emeka Egbuka projected to be first-round picks in 2024. And Olave has one simple explanation for why they’re so dominant: coach Brian Hartline.
Brian Hartline has been the team’s wide receivers coach since taking over ahead of the 2018 season, and during a recent appearance on NFL Liv, Chris Olave gave him all the praise when looking back at his development.
“He’s a huge part in what we do there, he teaches us on and off the field,” Olave said on NFL Live according to On3. “He’s already been in the NFL, so he’s got (a lot of) experience. But we got a group of guys that competed every day, competed against each other, which just made us better at the end of the day.
“It’s a lot of talent in the room, but he lets us develop and run our routes from day one. And just when we catch a ball or do something good, there’s always something to work on. He just set the standard high. We just took off with it and worked hard.”
And it doesn’t look like that streak of dominant receivers is going to end anytime soon.
