If there was any doubt about who the 2022 Heisman Trophy winner will be, they were likely put to rest Saturday. After Ohio State quarterback CJ Stroud‘s candidacy was put in jeopardy when his team was blown out by Michigan, a new frontrunner emerged just in time.
USC’s Caleb Williams is now the frontrunner. Williams threw for 232 yards and had four touchdowns in the Trojans’ victory over Notre Dame on Saturday.
Many around the college football world felt like Williams locked up the trophy on Saturday, including Trojans wide receiver Jordan Addison.
“He’s the one. He’s the one. That’s all I’m gonna say. I had to crown him myself,” said Addison after the game. “He’s gonna be down in New York. We go do what we gotta do this Friday? It’s gonna be his.”
Addison probably isn’t wrong. Williams has thrown for over 3,700 yards, 34 touchdowns, and only three interceptions. He is also leading his team to the Pac-12 Championship Game against Utah on Friday night.
Neither Stroud nor Alabama quarterback Bryce Young, the reigning Heisman winner, can say that. Both of them will be sitting at home on Saturday while Williams will be playing for a conference championship and a chance to lock up USC’s first College Football Playoff bid.
