The annual showdown between the USC Trojans and the UCLA Bruins is one of the most iconic and historic rivalries in all of college football. This year’s matchup will add a little more history to the legendary rivalry as for the first time in the history of the matchup the two teams will each be led by a Black starting quarterback with USC represented by Caleb Williams and UCLA led by Dorian Thompson-Robinson.
When asked about the two quarterbacks making college football history, Caleb Williams revealed that he’s proud to be a part of it.
“It’s awesome, to be honest,” Caleb Williams said, according to On3. “There hasn’t been a Black quarterback here, and that was one of the first things that I was told. There hasn’t been a Black quarterback here in a really long time.”
“So, that was really cool and really awesome. Still the same thing as another QB going out there and playing for me. So, really cool but treating it like another game where another QB is across from me, and trying to help my team win.”
The two teams will meet on Saturday night in a top-20 showdown in the Rose Bowl as USC looks to continue its quest for a College Football Playoff berth while UCLA is looking for a huge win.
