Caitlin Clark set the world on fire at the University of Iowa. The Hawkeyes were certainly happy to have her and see her turn into the NCAA’s all-time leading scorer. Former Iowa football standout Cooper DeJean recently talked about a potential 1-on-1 game with Clark.
It’s safe to say that Clark not only heard of this but is adamant about how things will go.
DeJean, who was selected by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2024 NFL Draft, joined Kay Adams on Up & Adams this week. DeJean discussed his potential 1-on-1 pickup game against the superstar Clark with Adams during the episode.
“We saw the quote flying around, you saying you could beat her 1-on-1. People thought you were taking shots at her,” Adams said before giving DeJean the opportunity to clear the air.
“I was really just answering the question,” DeJean said. “Caitlin’s a special player. She’s done so much for women’s basketball and the University of Iowa in general. I have nothing but respect for her. She took a shot back at me after she texted me and said that she doesn’t think I could beat her,” he added. “I think it would be fun though if we played each other.”
Adams asked DeJean if he thought he could beat her, and DeJean said yes. The show then ran a highlight reel for DeJean, who played high school basketball before arriving in Iowa. He admitted he wanted to play college basketball, but it just couldn’t work out.
Adams prodded DeJean on when this possible 1-on-1 matchup could occur. DeJean said he didn’t know because she’s “very busy right now.” It’s true, the No. 1 overall pick in this year’s WNBA Draft is going through the preseason with the Indiana Fever.
One has to wonder if these two former Iowa stars will meet up on the court one day.
