Last season, Michigan Wolverines quarterback Cade McNamara led the team to their first win against the rival Ohio State Buckeyes in a decade as well as the program’s first-ever appearance in the College Football Playoff. But this season, he was benched in favor of second-year quarterback J.J. McCarthy, so it appears that McNamara is looking to move on elsewhere.
According to senior college football reporter Max Olson of The Athletic, Cade McNamara has entered the transfer portal.
“Michigan QB Cade McNamara has entered the portal as a grad transfer, @TheAthletic has learned,” Olson said in a Tweet on Monday afternoon. “Really interested to see where Cade McNamara goes from here. Charlotte makes sense, but you don’t often see a QB who started for a CFP team hit the market. He’ll get lots of calls.”
After losing the job to McCarthy during the offseason, McNamara suffered an injury back in September that head coach Jim Harbaugh would cause him to miss “some time.” However, McNamara never returned to the field for the Wolverines this season and it appears that his time at Michigan is now over.
It’s clear that McNamara will be one of the top transfer quarterbacks available this offseason.
