BYU’s football team hosted Cincinnati on Friday night. But nothing that the Big 12 rivals did on the field was going to rival what BYU’s mascot, Cosmo the Cougar, did off of it.
During one of the breaks, Cosmo got ready for his display of acrobatics, in this case jumping a pair of ropes while backflipping. But there was an added element to this one — fire.
No, that’s a slang term for really impressive, although it was. Cosmo was literally jumping flaming ropes.
After starting with three normal jumps — or as normal as jump-roping flaming ropes can possibly be — Cosmo the Cougar went into his (or her) backflips. The Cougar nailed 12 backflips before the routine came to its end.
This is one of the rare occasions when the routine ended both early and right on time. On the one hand, it would have been fun to see Cosmo keep the backflips going for a while. On the other, that might have ended in a flaming disaster, so it’s probably all for the best.
College football fans loved Cosmo’s awesome athleticism and daredevil ways.
why does byu have to have such a cool mascot https://t.co/MXbTW93Rpm

Fortunately, the fire extinguishers on hand did not need to be used, at least not in an emergency situation. Had that been necessary, that might have led to some uncomfortable conversations between parents and their children throughout LaVell Edwards Stadium.
