As the Texas Longhorns prepare to move to the SEC next year, it seems as though they won’t have many supporters during their final season in the Big 12.
It seems as though Big 12 Commissioner Brett Yormark is even rooting against the Longhorns this season.
Speaking at Texas Tech’s Red Raider luncheon on Wednesday, Yormark made it clear that both the Longhorns and Oklahoma Sooners won’t be missed in the conference, saying, “Candidly, we were able to get Texas and Oklahoma out of here early. That’s a big deal for us and I think for all of you.”
Yormark went on to tell Texas Tech head coach Joey McGuire, “I’m not going to put any pressure on you, but I’m going to be in Austin on Thanksgiving. And you better take care of business like you did right here in Lubbock last year,” which drew a big cheer from the audience.
Texas Tech knocked off the Longhorns in a 37-34 overtime thriller last season, their first win over Texas in Lubbock since their thrilling win in 2008 when Michael Crabtree caught the game-winning touchdown with one second to play.
If the Texas vs. Texas A&M rivalry is any indication, this season will mark the last time for the immediate future that the teams face each other, so emotions will be running high on both sides when Thanksgiving rolls around.
