After months of rumors, Auburn has fired head football coach Bryan Harsin.
Auburn announced the news in a media release, saying that university president Christopher Roberts made the decision after a “thorough review and evaluation” of all aspects of the football program. The university will begin an “immediate search” for his successor.
According to ESPN, the university owes more than $15 million to buy out Harsin’s contract.
Harsin finishes with a 9-12 record for the Tigers, including 3-5 this season. The final straw might have been Saturday’s 41-27 loss to Arkansas, but Harsin’s been in hot water for months. Earlier this year, the university investigated the football program after almost two dozen players and five assistant coaches left the team citing poor treatment.
Harsin returned for his second season at Auburn this fall but has been subject to speculation for weeks, including one rumor that he had already been informed he would be terminated after the season.
Harsin’s 9-12 overall mark for the Tigers doesn’t begin to tell the whole story. He had a brutal mark in the SEC and against other Power Five schools.
Auburn fans on Twitter wasted no time celebrating the end of Harsin’s reign.

According to 247 Sports, the Tigers have already lost one recruit following the announcement. Gernorris Wilson, a 3-star offensive lineman from Florida, announced he will reopen his recruitment.
