Texas Longhorns star quarterback Arch Manning is set to return to college for another year, though it appears he’s dealing with an injury issue before he begins preparing for next season.
On Friday night, Texas announced that Manning had undergone foot surgery to address an injury he had been dealing with. The team described the operation as “minor” and said it was a “preventative measure to address a previous injury.”
Because of the injury and surgery, the Longhorns indicated that Manning will be limited during the team’s offseason workout program.
Texas did not disclose additional specifics of the injury or provide a detailed recovery timeline, other than indicating that Manning is expected to be back in time for the start of spring practice.
Needless to say, this is not great news for Manning, and it led to a lot of reactions on social media.
“Need to get the bubble wrap out please!” one fan wrote in a post on X.
“The excuses for next year have already started. We aren’t even a month into 2026, wow,” someone else wrote.
“Don’t love this news, his start to last year with full off season wasn’t good. Cant afford another slow start in 2026,” another fan wrote.
“Hopefully it’s not a bunionectomy. That’s a long recovery. Also hope it’s on his left and not his right,” someone else added.
“Just get healthy.. we need you Arch,” another fan added.
“Honestly lucky if that’s all he needs considering the hits he took this year,” someone else wrote.
Although his season got off to a somewhat uneven start, Manning was performing at an elite level by the time the year wrapped up.
In the final five games of the regular season, Manning threw for more than 250 yards in four contests and helped guide Texas to a 2-1 record against ranked opponents. Over that stretch, he tossed 12 touchdown passes and was intercepted just once.
During his first year as the full-time starter, Manning finished the season with 3,163 passing yards and 26 touchdowns through the air, while also adding 10 rushing scores. While he struggled a bit at the start of the season.
Manning is set to return to Texas for another season, and the Longhorns have clearly made an effort to surround him with talent as they look to make a serious push for a national championship next year.
