There are reports coming out of Tuscaloosa that the Alabama Crimson Tide won’t be starting Jalen Milroe at quarterback Saturday against South Florida.
Milroe struggled in last week’s loss to Texas, throwing two interceptions, one of which gave the Longhorns a double-digit lead in the fourth quarter.
The Tide will reportedly be turning to former Notre Dame quarterback Tyler Buchner, according to 24/7. Buchner played briefly in the Tide’s victory over Middle Tennessee State two weeks ago.
Buchner played under Tommy Ress while he was the offensive coordinator at Notre Dame and followed him to Tuscaloosa. Buchner was named the starting quarterback for the Fighting Irish in 2022 and played in two games before he was knocked out the rest of the season due to a shoulder injury.
It may be a surprise to some that Buchner would be starting instead of highly touted Ty Simpson, who many assumed would be backing up Milroe. However, Nick Saban indicated earlier this week that no one’s position is safe and that they evaluate players every week.
Naturally, some fans were caught off guard by the news that Alabama may be replacing Milroe. Some feel as if Alabama is treating the QB badly.
While some fans are on Jalen Milroe’s side, others understand why Saban and Rees are making a change.
We’ll have to wait and see if Alabama made the right decision.
