One day before welcoming the Texas Longhorns to Tuscaloosa for a showdown between two of the top-ranked teams in the country, the Alabama Crimson Tide got some good news.

Star senior defensive backs Malachi Moore and Jaylen Key are dealing with injuries and both had an unsure status for Saturday’s game. But on Friday night, that changed.

Chris Low of ESPN reported that while Key’s status is still unknown, Moore “is expected to play against Texas.”

Moore’s presence will be huge for the Tide. Texas has a deep group of receivers that will put Alabama’s supremely talented yet also young defensive backfield to the test. Moore is one of only two starters from Alabama’s defense returning from last year’s team.

The Longhorns and Tide played in Austin for what was one of the best games of the 2022 season. Despite an early injury to Quinn Ewers and his backup, Hudson Card, being shaken up later in the game, Texas passed for 292 yards against Alabama. Despite that spirited effort, the Tide came away with the win, with Will Reichard making a 33-yard field goal in the final seconds to win it.

Texas and Alabama both head into Saturday’s game at 1-0. The No. 11 ranked Longhorns defeated Rice 37-10 in their opener, while the No. 3 ranked Crimson Tide notched a 56-7 win over Middle Tennessee State.
