The Alabama Crimson Tide already have their new head coach in place after Nick Saban’s stunning retirement earlier this week, with former Washington head coach Kalen DeBoer officially accepting the job on Friday. Unfortunately for Alabama fans, this didn’t stop one of the team’s most productive offensive players from entering the transfer portal.
Sophomore wide receiver Isaiah Bond was slated to potentially be one of Alabama’s top wide receivers next season after a productive 2023 season, recording 48 receptions for 668 receiving yards and four touchdowns.
Instead, Bond has officially entered the transfer portal according to 247 Sports, becoming the No. 1 wide receiver in the transfer portal on their rankings list.
As for where Bond could be potentially heading in the transfer portal, he may end up staying in the conference with a new entry into the SEC for the 2024 season.
According to Brett Greenburg of 247 Sports, Bond is expected to visit Texas this weekend.
With this decision, Bond becomes the first player to enter the portal for Alabama since Saban’s decision to retire.
It obviously remains to be seen what kind of talent Alabama will bring in with Kalen DeBoer as the new head coach. But this is not a great start to his tenure in Tuscaloosa.
With this decision, Alabama’s offense will look entirely different at the wide receiver position. Their leader in receiving yards on the season, Jermaine Burton, will also be leaving for the NFL since 2023 was his final year of eligibility.
