Joseph Savarino, the grandson of Duke legend Mike Krzyzewski, who coached the Blue Devils to five national championships, was arrested over the weekend in relation to a fatal DWI crash that claimed the life of a 15-year-old boy.
According to TMZ, the tragic accident occurred around 9 PM in Durham, North Carolina on Saturday, when the victim rode in front of Savarino’s Ford Explorer while they traveled in the same direction
Per court documents obtained by TMZ, Savarino admitted to drinking earlier in the night … and registered a .11 on a breathalyzer, above the .08 legal limit, at 12:45 AM.
People reacted to the terrible situation on social media.
“Need to hear more on this one. The article says the boy rode in front of him. It’s 9 pm, hard to see, and bikes should not be in front of cars. Might be hard case to prove at trial depending on more facts,” one person wrote on Twitter.
“My god. Family will never be the same – immaturity took a child’s life,” someone else added.
“This is a heartbreaking situation. A young life was lost, and the case is still under investigation. It’s important to let the legal process fully establish the facts before drawing conclusion,” one person added.
The incident remains under investigation.
