Alabama Crimson Tide star enters transfer portal

Alabama may be losing one of its stars to the transfer portal.

According to a report for AL.com. Nimari Burnett, who transferred from Texas Tech to Alabama, is now leaving the Tide.

When Burnett transferred to Alabama a few years ago, he was expected to make a huge impact on this team, however, injuries limited his playing time and he become a bench player for the Tide this past season.

Burnett averaged 14.6 minutes and 5.6 points per game, starting nine of the 27 games he played. He also became one of the Tide’s best defensive players off the bench.

Burnett is a former McDonald’s high school All-American, Burnett was the No. 34 overall player in the 2020 class by 247 Sports’ composite.

He played in the Tide’s opening-round game of the NCAA Tournament against Texas A&M Corpus Christi and played well but did not see much action in their next game against Maryland and in their loss against San Diego State.

What also may have hurt Burnett’s playing time is the emergence of the Tide’s freshman class. Most of the starting lineup was a composite of mostly freshmen and sophomores.

This team won the most games in Alabama basketball history (31) and won the SEC regular season after being picked to finish fifth in the conference.

Burnett seemly confirmed he was thinking about leaving after the Tide’s loss Friday.
