The Michigan Wolverines and Michigan State Spartans met on Friday in an AP top ten matchup in East Lansing. After thoroughly handled in the first half, the Spartans stormed back in the second half to take the lead.
However, the comeback ultimately fell short, and the Wolverines went to Ann Arbor with an 83-71 victory. Michigan head coach Dusty May, however, didn’t hold back in his assessment of the play from the Spartans under their head coach, Tom Izzo.
“It’s not hard to find.”
May was asked about one play in particular, which has been deemed as ‘dirty’ and unsafe by many fans online, in which Michigan State guard Jeremy Fears Jr. appears to trip Michigan player Yaxel Lendeborg.
In May’s assessment, the Spartans made questionable choices throughout the game, not just during the play involving Fears.
“The film’s there. 40 minutes of it,” May said, according to Michigan reporter Anthony Broome. “It’s not hard to find.”
Fans reacted to May’s take on social media.
“Should be suspended if we’re being honest. Love gritty players but he’s just dirty. Great college player with no chance in the league,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Wasn’t enough to just get the win. Fears lives rent free lmao,” one Sparty fan added.
“Easily could’ve been called for 3-4 flagrants. Rivalry game had him way too emotional,” a Michigan chimed in.
Izzo will have the chance to respond in the media, but he might want to let his team do their talking on the court. The Spartans will have their chance to avenge Friday’s loss on March 8th in Ann Arbor.
