This time of year is great for many reasons. Including the weather finally starting to nice up again in certain parts of the country, but one nationwide spectacle that everyone in the country can be excited about is March Madness, or the NCAA tournament.

This year, the talk of the tournament has been Miami (OH) and whether the RedHawks should be included in the tournament with their stellar record or be held out after losing in the first round of the MAC tournament.

However, even if the RedHawks don’t make the NCAA tournament, they’d likely be invited to the NIT, especially after being snubbed for the tournament last year, with the Kent State Golden Flashes, who the Hawks had beaten three times, being selected over them.

The NIT serves as a complement to the NCAA Tournament as a secondary option. Unfortunately, the tertiary complement, the College Basketball Invitational, or CBI, has been cancelled this year.

“Due to circumstances beyond our control, the CBI will not be held this year. We will see you next year,” The CBI posted on its official Twitter account.

In 2025, the CBI was streamed on FloSports for the majority of the tournament, with the semifinals televised on ESPNU and the final airing on ESPN2.

Hopefully, the event will return in 2027 and give kids, especially seniors, one last chance to play with their squads.
