LeBron James has made it no secret that he is a fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes athletic program as he has been seen attending several Ohio State football games over the years, has donated gear to both the football and basketball programs, and even has an honorary locker in the Ohio State basketball locker room. And now that Ohio State needs a new basketball coach, it sounds like he is trying to influence that decision.
According to a report from Mike Wachsman of College Football Focus, LeBron James is “pushing” for the Ohio State Buckeyes to hire Florida Atlantic head coach Dusty May as their next head coach after firing Chris Holtmann last month. And if it happens, he’s prepared to make a donation “in the millions” to the team.
“A quick nugget on the OSU basketball coaching search (though if the Buckeyes keep playing the way they have lately maybe the search won’t be needed),” Wachsman wrote in a post on X, formerly Twitter.
“One name that has come up is FAU coach Dusty May, and he is the guy LeBron James is pushing for. Word is that if OSU does end up hiring May, LeBron’s youngest son, Bryce, is almost assured of attending Ohio State. Additionally, James would help out the basketball program with a large monetary donation, in the millions.”
Obviously, it’s pretty insane news that James is commanding such strong influence in the Ohio State coaching search, and it led to a lot of reactions on social media.
We’ll have to see if James gets his choice.
