Final Four hero Lamont Butler made a huge announcement on Monday.
The star San Diego State Aztecs guard will enter the 2023 NBA Draft. Butler will look to maintain his eligibility as he won’t hire an agent yet.
“I want to first and foremost give all glory to God as he has guided me throughout my whole journey. I would also like to thank my family, friends, coaches, and fans for their continued support. I’m excited to announce that I will be declaring for the 2023 NBA Draft while maintaining my eligibility,” Butler said in an official statement. Butler published the statement on his personal Twitter account.
Butler etched his name in Final Four lore this month. He knocked down a game-winning jumper to take Florida Atlantic down and send SDSU to the title game. While the Aztecs lost to the robust UConn Huskies, it certainly doesn’t take away from the moment.
The Mountain West named him a Third-Team All-Mountain West selection this season. He was selected to the All-Defensive Team two years in a row in 2022 and in 2023. The 6-foot-2, 195-pound point guard attended Riverside Poly before joining SDSU in 2020.
He was also named to the All-Tournament team, along with FAU’s Alijah Martin and three UConn players: Adama Sanogo, Jordan Hawkins, and Tristen Newton.
