The San Diego State Aztecs made a remarkable run to the National Championship Game as a 5-seed in the 2023 men’s college basketball NCAA Tournament.
In the National Championship Game loss to the Connecticut Huskies, Keshad Johnson led San Diego State in scoring with 14 points.
Johnson announced in April that he was entering the 2023 NBA Draft, but while maintaining his college basketball eligibility. And in a more notable move, Johnson also announced that he was entering the transfer portal.
Well, on Saturday, Johnson announced that he’s transferring to play college basketball for the Arizona Wildcats.
According to Joe Tipton of On3, Johnson also “garnered strong interest” from programs such as Kentucky, USC, and Oklahoma.
Johnson — a 6-foot-7 forward — started every game for San Diego State over the past two seasons.
In the 2022-23 season, Johnson averaged 7.7 points and 5.0 rebounds, while putting together an 18.0 Player Efficiency Rating (PER).
Johnson joins an Arizona team that was a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament, but was shocked by No. 15 seed Princeton in the first round. The Wildcats also added Alabama transfer guard Jaden Bradley earlier this month.
Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports and FanDuel ranks Arizona as the No. 14 team in the country after the addition of Johnson.
