The Indiana Hoosiers find themselves in the midst of a frustrating season, sitting at 17-13 and likely needing to win multiple Big Ten Tournament games to have any hope of making the NCAA Tournament.
Some fans believed head coach Mike Woodson could be on the hot seat, but on Wednesday ESPN reported that Woodson would be returning for the 2024-25 season.
On Thursday, 2024 five-star forward Liam McNeeley decommitted from the program.
Travis Branham of 247Sports had the news first.
McNeeley originally committed to Indiana in October of 2023 and signed his National Letter of Intent in November. He currently plays at Florida’s Montverde Academy, the alma mater of many professional athletes including D’Angelo Russell and Scottie Barnes.
He originally chose Indiana over the Kansas Jayhawks but also had interest from the Texas Longhorns and Arkansas Razorbacks. McNeeley is the 15th-best prospect in the nation per 247, so he likely will have plenty of suitors as he re-enters the market.
Making things worse for Indiana is the fact that McNeeley was the lone commit in the class of 2024. With multiple players departing this offseason when their eligibility expires.
In what will clearly be a make-or-break year for Woodson, things are certainly already off to a rocky start. If Woodson is fired after next year, he would be the second straight Indiana coach to be fired after his fourth season.
