The Cavinder twins appear to many fans to have the perfect life. They’re social media sensations, former college basketball stars and now pursuing WWE careers.
But behind the scenes, Haley and Hanna Cavinder confessed Friday that they have battled anorexia nervosa.
The Cavinders opened up about the issue in a video released on their YouTube channel to commemorate World Eating Disorders Action Day.
“Something that Hanna and I have been struggling with for years now … is our eating habits,” Haley said.
The basketball stars became obsessive about counting calories in 2022 after transferring to the University of Miami from Fresno State.
“It started getting very toxic with eating a certain amount of calories a day,” Hanna Cavinder said. “But we’re burning so many calories, we’re not taking in enough.”
That’s when they encountered an unlikely person to help them, Kathryne “Kat” Padgett. While better known as the ex-girlfriend of MLB legend Alex Rodriguez, she’s also an accomplished fitness coach.
The Cavinders said Padgett explained they needed more carbohydrates, and she changed their mindset about food. Remarkably, this all happened earlier this year, while the twins were seemingly invincible on the court, leading the Hurricanes to their first NCAA Elite Eight in school history.
The twins’ confession drew mixed reaction on social media, with some fans applauding, and others repeating the criticism that the pair are overexposed.
