Following a standout season in which they helped lead Miami (Fla.) to the Elite Eight, Haley and Hanna Cavinder surprised the college basketball world when they announced that they would be leaving the Hurricanes program to retire from the sport.
But as it turned out, Haley Cavinder isn’t done with the hardwood just yet, with the 5-foot-6 guard announcing on Monday that she’ll be transferring to TCU.
“the last rodeo,” Cavinder posted to social media, along with pictures of herself in her new Horned Frogs uniform and the hashtag #committed
Cavinder’s commitment is a major get for first-year TCU head coach Mark Campbell. Last season, Cavinder was Miami’s leading scorer with 12.2 points per game while also posting team highs in 3-point shooting percentage (.404) and free throw percentage (.878) en route to earning second-team All-ACC honors.
In heading to Fort Worth, the 2021 Mountain West Player of the Year joins a Horned Frogs team that has won its first three games of the 2023-24 campaign. While it was previously believed that Haley and Hanna Cavinder had retired to focus on their post-playing careers — including a developmental deal with WWE — it now appears at least one of them will be making her return to college basketball, where the two twins had reportedly earned more than $2 million in NIL deals last season.
Following Haley Cavinder’s announcement on Monday, many took to social media to weigh in.
