First Lady Jill Biden, who attended Sunday’s Women’s NCAA National Championship Game, liked what she saw from both teams.
So much so, in fact, that Biden said Monday she’d like to see star Caitlin Clark and the runner-up Iowa Hawkeyes join the champion LSU Tigers for the traditional winners’ celebration at the White House.
Speaking in Denver, Biden congratulated both teams but also praised Iowa’s sportsmanship in their 102-85 loss.
“I know we’ll have the champions come to the White House, we always do. So, we hope LSU will come,” she said. “But, you know, I’m going to tell Joe I think Iowa should come, too, because they played such a good game.”

Perhaps Biden was just that impressed by Iowa’s showing. However, it’s worth noting that the Iowa caucuses, part of the presidential nomination process, are slated to be among the first in the nation for the Democrats on the 2024 campaign schedule.
While some sports fans like the idea, the vast majority seemed strongly opposed. Some said it’s an example of a “participation trophy” culture.
So the winning team has always gotten the privilege of being asked to the White House. While Caitlin Clark and Iowa had a great championship, the winners here are Angel Reese and LSU, in a landmark win. This not the unifying move Dr. Jill thinks it is.

@flotus huge fan of you, your husband, and women’s basketball. No to this! LSU deserves their time in the sun, alone. If Iowa does get invited, they better turn it down.

Noooo, @FLOTUS. This is extremely unfair to the true winners.

She’s really taking the name White House to heart, isn’t she?
Jeesh. It would be comedy if it weren’t so sad.— Ryan A Bell (@ryan_a_bell) April 3, 2023
Yeah… I’m all in favor of honoring all amazing women but this was Not Good. Give LSU their time.
