USC’s men’s basketball team opened up its season on Monday night with a home game against Kansas State. During the game, basketball fans got a huge update regarding Trojans freshman Bronny James, the son of LeBron James and one of the top recruits from the Class of 2023.
After a lengthy recruiting process, James opted to stay in Southern California, committing to USC in May. But in July, basketball quickly didn’t matter as much, as James collapsed during a summer workout. It was later revealed that he had gone into cardiac arrest.
Fortunately for James and everyone involved, he was quickly treated. And on Monday, fans were given news that Bronny may play for the Trojans this season.
Lebron stated in October that Bronny “He has begun his rehab process to get back on the floor this season with his teammates at USC.” A report from ESPN’s Dave McMenamin makes that even more realistic.
“Bronny James is going to get a check up at the end of the month, according to LeBron James. If he’s cleared, he will practice with the intention to return to game action for USC this season,” McMenamin reported on Twitter/X.
One would have to expect that all parties involved will use caution when it comes to James and his potential return to action. But assuming there are no significant setbacks, this seems like the best update possible, given what he dealt with less than four months ago.
