Earlier this week, news broke that USC Trojans freshman Bronny James – the son of NBA megastar LeBron James – was planning to enter the NCAA transfer portal. But it sounds like he’s also going to consider his options at the NBA level, as well.
As first reported by NBA insider Shams Charania of The Athletic, Bronny James has decided to declare for the upcoming 2024 NBA Draft while still entering the transfer portal and retaining his college basketball eligibility.
“USC freshman Bronny James is declaring for the 2024 NBA Draft. James, 19, also is entering NCAA transfer portal to maintain flexibility. The combo guard will work out for and visit NBA teams and make a draft decision based on evaluation,” Charania said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.
College basketball players are permitted to declare for the NBA Draft and go through the pre-draft process to receive feedback from NBA teams before ultimately making their final decision on whether to return to school or remain in the draft. This appears to be what Bronny is doing.
LeBron James has long maintained that he would like to play with Bronny in the NBA before he retires from basketball and he has recently made it clear that he does not have all that much time left before retirement. We’ll have to see whether or not that plays into Bronny’s decision-making process.
