With Alabama less than 24 hours away from their opening NCAA Tournament game in Birmingham, reports are coming out that SEC Player of the Year Brandon Miller needs protection ahead of the Tide’s game.
When asked about why Miller had security surrounding him, Alabama head coach Nate Oats said:
“If you saw some of the messages from people who can sit behind fake email addresses … you would understand it more. … It’s not something a college kid should have to go through.”
Miller has been a target since it was reported that he was the one who brought Darius Miles his gun in the murder of Jamea Harris, which took place on January 15th.
Miller wasn’t charged by Tuscaloosa Police, while Tuscaloosa chief deputy district attorney Paula Whitley previously said, “There’s nothing we could charge [Miller] with.” Though it hasn’t stopped some from targeting their wrath on the freshman All-American.
Miller was recently heckled at the SEC Tournament by a couple of Vanderbilt fans who chanted “Brandon Killer” at the star. SEC officials decided not to remove either person.
Alabama is the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament. It’s the first time the Crimson Tide are a No. 1 seed. They play Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in the first round.
